Hershey Beach in Galveston is a West End destination beach nestled in between Spanish Grant and Sands of Kahala. It’s a perfect location being a halfway point between Jamaica Beach and the Galveston Seawall. Over half of Hershey Beach is private, reserved for the huge beachfront rentals and residents but there is a part open to the public.

Hershey Beach is a high demand location with limited availability, partly because it’s a small community (two rows) and also because the welcome sign says “a little taste of paradise.”

Imagine yourself walking barefoot on the beach, hosting a BBQ or collecting seashells along the shore. Have quiet time on the sand and enjoy the exclusivity of the private part of Hershey Beach or venture over and mix & mingle with new people on the public side.

While you’re there don’t forget to visit Moody Gardens, The Lone Star Flight Museum or try your hand at pier fishing at Jimmy’s on the Pier just down the road. If you’re looking to tap into your childhood or literally need to satisfy some active kids, you’re just a stone’s throw from Kites Unlimited located at 89th and the Seawall, near Magic Carpet Golf.

No matter what you like to do for fun, the Galveston seaside has it all. Moody Gardens, a popular family entertainment complex, offers practically everything from adventurous rope courses, great golfing, an aquarium, indoor rainforest complex, discovery museum, and 3D theatres. Outdoor enthusiasts will find themselves surrounded by natural options, especially at Galveston Island State Park, a 2000-acre preserve great for hiking, birding, and swimming.

Those who favor more classic beachside amusement will have fun visiting Galveston Island Historic Pleasure Pier, where you can indulge in a seaside roller coaster, carnival games, and souvenir shops. For those who need more adrenaline, a visit to Schlitterbahn water park should do the trick! If you’re visiting out of season, Schlitterbahn has not only exhilarating outdoor rides but also a year-round heated indoor water park. If you’re looking to tap into your childhood or literally need to satisfy some active kids, you’re just a stone’s throw from Kites Unlimited, where you can pick up all the great kites you might possibly need for a fun beach vacation.

And of course, for those who can’t imagine a seashore vacation without fishing, Galveston is hard to beat as a fishing destination. The island offers so many varied opportunities for angling, it’s not even funny. From pier and jetty fishing, like at the Galveston Seawall, to fishing Galveston Bay in a small boat, to deep-water charters that can take you out to the oil rigs and beyond in search of the big marlins and tunas, all your fishing dreams can be satisfied here in Galveston!

Any history buffs headed to Galveston will already know that the island is so much more than just a beautiful seaside destination. Galveston was an important port city throughout much of the 19th century, as well as the largest city in Texas at one time. Through its many ups and downs, weathering natural and economic disasters, Galveston has managed to preserve many historic structures that can be visited today. Bishop’s Palace and Moody Mansion are two of the most popular Victorian residences to tour.

There are also fun and different historical things to visit when staying in one of our Hershey Beach Galveston rentals, such as the three-masted tall ship Elissa, one of the world’s oldest sailing vessels. Launched in 1877, the Elissa has been renovated many times and still sails regularly to this day. She’s moored as a museum ship at the Texas Seaport Museum.

Take advantage of all the perks you’ll enjoy at Hershey Beach and get ready to settle in and relax at one of Galveston’s front row prime beaches.
